Mets rookie phenom Peter Alonso has won the 2019 Home Run Derby. After hitting a home run on his last pitch while time was running out, Peter Alonso was able to get the last ball over the wall.
Alonso hit 23 home runs in the finals to beat Vladimir Guerrero Jr.
Alonso struggled early as his pitcher was not able to locate the ball where he needed it to be. They later caught fire and ended up winning all 3 rounds.
A great deal it was for Alonso to win the derby. In order for him to do so, he needed to beat Guerrero Jr. who totaled 91 home runs during the derby.
Not only did Guerrero hit 91 home runs (new record), he now holds the records for the two most home runs in a round during the derby (29).
