The champs smash my West Ham United, Pulisic debuts for Chelsea.
The World’s Greatest Football League is back for another season. The English Premier League kicked off the 2019-2020 campaign this past Friday as Liverpool pipped Norwich City. The Canaries are back in the Premier League after winning the EFL Championship last season. My beloved West Ham United had a day to forget, as they were demolished by Manchester City at the London Stadium. Raheem Sterling enjoyed a hat-trick on the day, with Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero adding a goal apiece. Newcomers Sheffield United, who are back in the PL for the first time in 12 years, drew with Bournemouth down on the south coast of England.
Day three of the Opening Weekend would see Manchester United rout Chelsea at Old Trafford by a score of 4-0. American wunderkind Christian Pulisic would start the day on the bench but would sub in during the loss. New Chelsea boss, and club legend, Frank Lampard can only hope to rebound from the loss. After only one year in the Championship with Derby County, he’ll need to find answers quickly to keep his seat from heating up at Stamford Bridge.
A new soccer season always brings so much hope to fans all over the world. For millions of followers and teams, in the lower leagues to top divisions, there is nothing like Opening Weekend. So much hope and promise a new season can bring are why we follow the Beautiful Game. If your club took a beating, like my Hammers did, keep your heads up. You never know what the season can bring.
