We’re two weeks into the preseason and neither Kyle Allen or 3rd round pick Will Grier have been particularly impressive. Should the Panthers be worried?

Thursday will mark week 3 of the 2019 NFL preseason and brings a matchup against the defending Super Bowl champs. While preseason games largely have no meaning other than to see how the bottom of the roster will shake out, this year, a few question marks remain at some pretty crucial positions.

Grier v. Allen (through 2 preseason games)

Grier: 19-35 (54.3%) 152 yds 1 TD 2 INT

Allen: 11-22 (50%) 108 yds 0 TD 0 INT

Those are some rough numbers. For what it’s worth, Taylor Heinicke has played fairly well in his limited time (12/21 113yds 1 TD 0 INT) but that’s not going to silence the critics. When arguably your best player and starting QB is coming off of shoulder¬†surgery and new throwing motion, back up QB becomes pretty important.

Last year should have been a learning experience for a team that started 6-2 with playoff and Super Bowl aspirations. Without a capable QB behind center and behind QB1, this season could be over quick. What would you like to see the Panthers do?
