The Rookies

Saturdays and Sundays 10am-11am

There’s not much to say about the Panthers today, it was a dumpster fire. They just got outplayed and outcoached by the 49ers. It was hard to watch.

I could not have been more wrong about the 49ers. I thought they were a good team but man, they are for real. That defense is littered with talent and they get after the QB. Kyle Allen felt the pressure all day today. Even when he wasn’t getting pressured, he could feel it, Allen looked like a backup today.

What Went Wrong? Everything.

But it wasn’t just Allen. The Panthers’ defense was absolutely atrocious, allowing the 49ers to accumulate 391 total yards of offense, 235 yards of that on the ground. When you can’t get off the field because the offense is struggling, it doesn’t help. Give credit to the 49ers, they exploited the Panthers Defense’s biggest weakness, their inability to defend against the run.

The 49ers pass rushers gave the Panthers O-Line fits all day, racking up 7 sacks, Nick Bosa accounting for 3 of those along with an interception. With the Panthers down 21-3, CMC broke off a 40+ yard run that was negated by a holding penalty on Trai Tuner. They continued to shoot themselves in the foot on both sides of the ball with untimely penalties. This 49ers defense is relentless and they let the Panthers have it for 60 minutes. CMC did finish the day with 155 total yards and a touchdown, the lone bright spot today.

Panthers Need To Show Urgency

Beyond the pressure he faced and dropped passes, Allen looked flat out bad today. Ron Rivera and Marty Hurney should look to add someone on the O-Line and Wide Receiver spots before the trade deadline. At 4-3 they are still in the playoff race but the Panthers will have to do some soul searching if they want to salvage this season after a loss like this.

I’ve got to imagine that the Kyle Allen experiment is coming to an end soon after today’s performance but I hope the Panthers make the right call and make sure Cam Newton is 100% healthy before giving him the starting nod.

Next game: vs Titans
