Scholarships For Playing Video Games
Gaming is more than just a hobby now. It’s more than just your child sitting in the house all day not doing anything, they could actually be perfecting their craft. Console and PC games are now considered by many to be works of art. Your child can now get a degree for PLAYING VIDEO GAMES. It doesn’t stop there, once they attend college for e-gaming, there are a number of jobs they can obtain with that degree. Here are 54 scholarships your child can earn for e-gaming.
1. ANIMATION PROFESSIONAL
– this scholarship offers $1,000/year. They must be pursuing a degree in animation, which includes Game Animation, Game Art, Game Design, Game Development, Game Management, and Game Production
2. Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences
– this scholarship offers $2,500/year. The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences has three scholarships available for undergraduate students looking to go into the video game industry. The three scholarship funds are WomenIn, Randy Pausch, and Mark Beaumont. Each concerns a different aspect of the video game industry. All three funds are for students starting their second year in undergraduate studies in any major (the WomenIn fund is specifically for women). Applicants must have a minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale. A personal statement and two letters of recommendation are required.
3. Twitch and Alienware
– this scholarship offers $10,000. This is the scholarship that the heavy gamers would like to receive. You cannot apply for this scholarship if you don’t at least have a 3.0 GPA and proof of registration to their school for the fall. Application components include a 1-minute video/montage of why the applicant love games and an essay (800 words or less) explaining why the applicant believes they should be one of the recipients of the scholarship.
4. ESA Foundation Scholarship Program
– this scholarship offers $3,000 and up to 30 awards to female and minority students who are pursuing degrees that lead to a career in computer and video game arts. Students must be US citizens and have to have a GPA of 2.75 or above.
5. University of California-Irvine eSports Scholarship
– They award half of instate 1/2 tuition costs This program is in its first year. UCI has built an arena for gamers that is open to everyone on campus for $4/hour. It has top-of-the-line gaming computers and chairs (80 in all), and several console spaces as well. In addition, they have a Computer Game Science degree that combines computer science with game design. UCI’s goal is to become the “Mecca for gamers,” and with programs like these, it could be well on its way.
