Ways To Keep Your Kids (And Yourself) Entertained At Home
With events being cancelled seemingly every minute, the very real possibility of school and work being cancelled in the near future, and growing fears about being in public, entertaining the kids at home is probably going to be on the agenda.
So what are you going to do after they are bored of the usual toys, you’ve passed your limit on how much screen time you’ll allow, and the words “I’m bored” seem to be on repeat. Check out these ideas below:
- Glow In The Dark Bowling– A great nighttime activity to finish burning off all that energy. Just pick up some glowsticks from the dollar store and put them in empty water bottles, grab a ball out of the garage and you’ve got hours of fun!
- Balloon Volleyball– Blow up some balloons and let your kids go to town, the balloons are much lighter so the chance of anything getting broken is minimal.
- Create an obstacle course– there are so many ways to bring this idea to life, but perhaps one of the easiest and most fun involves a hallway, some string or streamers, and tape (I’d recommend painters tape or scotch as to not mess up walls). Run the string back and forth from each side of the wall at all different levels and kids must get through without touching it. You can make it harder by adding additional obstacles kids must also avoid such as pillows or orange tissue paper (lava).
- Teach them your favorite board game- take this time to teach them your favorite childhood board game, maybe make the jump from the kid’s version to the adult of a game they already love.
- Bake cookies– skip the precut and slice and bake and make cookies from scratch. Plus you can throw in some “learning” about measurements and have an awesome treat afterward. Don’t forget the icing and sprinkles to decorate!
- Create a map of places they’ve been or would like to visit-simply print each child out a map of your state, the country, or even the world and let them color where they’ve been and where they would like to go.
- Make an “Olaf” out of an old sock– Check out this tutorial on Pinterest to create everyone’s favorite snowman out of an old sock.
- Build a fort and have an indoor camp out– You know it was one of your favorite things as a child, let the kids build a fort and camp out for the night!
Pinterest is also full of plenty of crafts to try many of which involve things you already have at home and there looks to be some good weather a few days next week perfect for getting out and just enjoying the sunshine. Stay safe everyone!
