College basketball in the Triangle will have a decidedly different look after the upcoming season, as legendary Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski, Coach K, is reportedly retiring after this year. Jeff Goodman with Stadium broke the story today.

The news comes on the heels of Roy Williams’ sudden retirement from North Carolina’s basketball team on April 1.

Goodman reports that assistant coach Jon Scheyer is the leading candidate to replace Coach K.

Coach K is the all-time winningest coach in NCAA men’s basketball history. He has led Duke to five NCAA Tournament championships in 40 seasons. He’s also made 12 Final Four appearances.

He joined the Blue Devils in 1980, after five seasons at Army. He had only two losing seasons at Duke, his second and third with the program. He has 1,097 wins at Duke with only 302 losses.
