While Charlotte is slowly becoming more pedestrian and mass-transit friendly, I couldn't imagine living here without a car. But that will soon be the reality for many people. Charlotte's first Carless apartment building is coming to Optimist Park. The complex called "The Joinery" will be an 83 unit complex. It's located at 1824 N. Brevard, near 22nd Street.

The project is part of a push to make Charlotte a more walkable city. The Joinery will offer residents use of transportation options. These include electric bikes and scooters for rent, as well as electric cars such as Teslas to rent. It also features easy walkability and access to the light rail with the Parkwood  station a short walk away.

The Joinery will feature studio, one and two-bedroom apartments. No word yet on how much they will cost. There will be an agreement with an off-site garage for residents who still want to keep a car close by. So while they may be touted as carless apartments the residents don't have to be complete without a vehicle.
