However, every now and again a TV series is immortalized by fans and becomes a timeless gem of pop culture. It seems that people are always on the search for these iconic box sets with searches for “great tv series to binge” increasing by 1300% over the past year.
Greetings card marketplace, thortful.com, has compiled a list of the top 20 box sets that people go back to time after time. To create the list, thortful carried out desk research to find the most popular box sets. They then created a weighted index using the following metrics: date, IMDB rating, how many reviews the show gets per year, and google search trends. These are those shows that, no matter how many times they’re on repeat, they’re still just as good as the first watch.

Coming in first place is the 1990’s sitcom, Friends. The popularity of this program is proved by Netflix reportedly paying $100 million for the right to air it on their platform in 2019.
Interestingly, 19 of the top 20 TV shows were all created in the US with the only Doctor Who being created overseas in the UK. In terms of genre, there is a lot of variation within the top 20: only 6 of the shows on the list are comedy whereas the others are a mix of dramas, thrillers, and sci-fi. Pretty cool!
