The last Thursday of July is yet another day filled with the strange and frightening.

We should appreciate the little things every day…but they can also be a reminder of history. Every morning I wake up grateful for the day and wonder what strangeness is associated with it. Knowledge of major historic events is critical to understanding our culture and how we live today. Whether it’s a big world event or simply just national cookie day, history makes the days more interesting.

You might think I’m weird, but I find history fascinating because of the weird and scary things that happen. In this article, we’ll explore five bizarre occurrences that occurred on July 29th throughout history. So sit back, relax and enjoy the weird and strange facts in history.

• Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer were married in St. Paul’s Cathedral in London

  Royal bells were ringing on this day. On July 29th,1981 Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer were married in St. Paul's Cathedral in London. They were married for fifteen years and divorced in 1996. On August 31st of 1997 Diana, Princess of Wales died in a terrible car accident that happened in Paris.

• NASA Was Born!

  We can all thank July 29th for NASA! In 1958 NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) was created by the National Aeronautics and Space Act. NASA was created in order to make sure America will win the space race. (We love being first!) After 11 years and tons of money, Neil Armstrong stepped out of the lunar module Eagle and onto the moon's surface on July 20th, 1969.

  Talk about some bad luck. On July 29th, 1973 Led Zeppelin had more than $200,000 in cash stolen from a safety deposit box at the New York Hilton. To this day, this crime remains unsolved.

• U.S.A. Day Trader Goes On Killing Spree

  This one is wild. On July 29th, 1999 a Day Trader named Mark O. Barton opened fire at All-Tech Investment Group Inc Atlanta brokerage office. During this event, he killed nine people and wounded thirteen others. Barton did all of this before shooting himself. Earlier, he also killed his wife and two children. It is thought he went on the killing spree after losing over $100,000 while day trading between June 9th and July 27th.

• National Lasagna Day

  If you have a friend who is a chef, ask them to make you some lasagna today. The word lasagna comes from the ancient Greek word 'laganon' which is the earliest form of pasta. The first known recipe of this famous dish was in Italy in the 1330s. Celebrate by making the dish and enjoying it with family and friends.
