A local McDonald's restaurant is closing its dining room. And this time it's not for covid safety precautions. It's the labor shortage that is plaguing much of the country. The McDonald's on Pineville Matthews Road closed its dining room recently due to a lack of staff. The location will still be offering drive-thru and carry-out options as well as delivery through outside vendors.

Accord to Insider, a McDonald's spokesperson said:

"Thanks to the incredible efforts of the individuals working in McDonald's restaurants, over 99% of our locations in the US have stayed open throughout the pandemic to serve and support communities across the country. To stay competitive, McDonald's recently announced an average 10% pay increase at its corporate-owned US restaurants, and many franchisees are exploring increased wages, offering tuition assistance, and piloting backup childcare programs at select franchised locations."

A few weeks ago on August 10th, North Carolina McDonald's held open interviews to fill 9,000 open positions in the state. Restaurants across the county are facing significant labor shortages. These struggles in hiring leading to reduced operating hours, slower services, and frustrated employees. They are trying to incentivize employees with increased wages, sign-on bonuses, and other perks.
