Donating Your Old Cell Phones Can Help Save Gorillas
Donating your old cell phones can help save gorillas. I know what you’re thinking but yes it’s true. The mineral Coltan which goes into cell phones and computers is found in the gorillas’ natural habitat. Those habitats are being destroyed to mine coltan as well as to collect lumber. This has led to a dramatic decrease in the gorilla population especially in central Africa.
The gorilla population has gone down significantly in recent years due to food and habitat loss. @Bentnews explains how you can help save them by donating your old phone or computer to @NCZoo #WakeUpCLT #WorldGorillaDay https://t.co/WxDdz4TAFZ

Today is World Gorilla Day and in that honor the NC Zoo wants North Carolinians to donate their old cellphones and computers in an effort to help save the lives of gorillas around the world. The NC Zoo is a partner with Gorillas on the Line, which is a worldwide cellphone recycling program.
If you’re anything like me and have several old cell phones or other devices laying around the house this is a great way to recycle them. Just drop off any old phones, tablets, iPods, or similar devices at the zoo in Asheboro. They will then be sent off to recycling partners who will extract the coltan and recycle it for use in new electronics all without harming the gorillas’ habitat. Plus anyone who brings in an old device this Saturday, Sept. 25 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. will receive a free Gorillas on the Line shirt. And while you’re there donating your cell phones make sure to stop by and say hi to the zoo’s troop of seven western lowland gorillas.
