A North Carolina veteran won $4 million in the Mega Millions lottery using the numbers from a fortune cookie. Yes, you read that correctly a fortune cookie. This is something I’ve always thought about. Putting your fortune cookie down, picking the numbers, and winning a million dollars. When I play it out in my head, I laugh and throw the numbers away because let’s face it, life isn’t a PG-13 comedy, is it? However, in light of this story, I might have to play a cookie sometime in the future.
About once a week, Gabriel Fierro and his wife eat at the Red Bowl Asian Bistro in Charlotte, N.C., according to the NC Education Lottery. Last week, however, their cookies at the restaurant were extra fortunate.
According to the North Carolina Lottery report, “I don’t usually play my fortune cookie numbers but I tried them on a whim,” Fierro said. With Online Play, Fierro bought a lucky Mega Millions ticket and added $1 to make it a Megaplier ticket. He matched all five white balls to win $1 million, and then the 4X Megaplier boosted the prize to $4 million. In North Carolina, his $4 million cash prize became the largest win in the history of Online Play.
