Grandad Wins The Lottery Using Grandkids’ Birthdays As Numbers
Winning the lottery? That’s fantastic. Winning the lottery off numbers that have a special meaning? That’s got to be even sweeter. That’s exactly what happened when Christopher Bowman of Raleigh played his grandkids’ birthdays in Sunday’s Cash 5 drawing. That good decision won him a jackpot of $212,415.
The ticket was purchased on Friday from a Food Lion location on Six Forks Road in Raleigh. Monday he checked the numbers and realized he was a winner. “We were just laughing because we could not believe it,” said Bowman. “We’re still pinching ourselves to make sure it is real.” Bowman, 67, and his wife had seen a drop in income due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The couple are traveling artists who showcase “American Indian” culture and many of the shows and events they attend have been canceled over the past few years.
Bowman claimed his prize Monday at the lottery office. After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $150,836. What will that money go to? I bet you can guess at least part of it! “Now we can go visit our grandkids,” said Cindy Bowman. “They are scattered all around the country.” The rest of the money the couple hopes to invest, as well as use to pay bills, and “do some family stuff” with their winnings.
