This year, Easter Sunday falls on April 17. Many people will be decorating eggs and receiving Easter baskets. Most grocery stores, pharmacies, and large retailers are giving their employees a much-needed break on Easter Sunday.
- Aldi: Some Aldi stores in California and Arizona will be open on Easter, but locations in the rest of the country will be closed. Easter Sunday is one of the holidays on which Aldi remains closed each year.
- Best Buy: Best Buy stays closed on Easter every year. That includes curbside pickup.
- Costco: Costco is always closed on Easter, and this year is no different.
- Kohl’s: Kohl’s has a tradition of remaining closed on Easter. Drive-Up (curbside pickup) will be closed, too, so be sure to order what you need for Easter by Saturday or earlier.
- Lowe’s: For the past two years, Lowe’s has remained closed for Easter Sunday to give employees a day off. We haven’t seen an announcement for 2022 hours, but we anticipate stores to be closed on Easter Sunday in 2022 as well.
- Sam’s Club: Sam’s Club is always closed on Easter. Curbside pickup is closed, too, so be sure to place your order by Saturday at the latest. We recommend getting your order in early, as this service will likely be in high demand during Easter weekend.
- Macy’s: Macy’s will be closed on Easter Sunday, per the recently updated hours on its store pages.
- Target: Target has a history of closing on Easter and will remain closed this year, too. Expect Drive Up and grocery delivery to be in high demand the day before for the Easter holiday and plan to order what you need as far in advance as you can.
- HEB: Stores, curbside pickup, and home delivery will all be closed on Easter Sunday.
- Publix: Publix locations will be closed on Easter Sunday. In the days leading up to Easter, most locations will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. so you can stock up on your Easter brunch pantry essentials.
Big Lots
Big Lots has confirmed it will be open on Easter Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Whole Foods
Whole Foods stores will be open, as they generally are on Easter. The only day that Whole Foods stores close completely is Christmas.
Sprouts
Sprouts Farmers Market will be open on Easter Sunday. However, hours may vary by location so check ahead.
Trader Joe's
Trader Joe’s stores will be open on Easter Sunday, per the Trader Joe's website. However, hours will be reduced with locations closing by 5 p.m.
Safeway
Some Safeway locations will be open on Easter. Shoppers should expect limited hours that vary by location.
CVS
Expect 24-hour locations to remain open (other locations’ hours will vary). Note that pharmacy hours will vary from regular store hours, so be sure to check ahead of time. The CVS pharmacy generally closes early on Sundays, regardless.
Home Depot
Home Depot will be open on Easter starting at 8 a.m. but will close early at 6 p.m. (Home Depot Easter hours: stores always have reduced hours on Sundays, so plan to shop between the usual Sunday hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.).
Dollar General
In North Carolina, Dollar General stores will follow normal operating hours.
Starbucks
Some Starbucks locations will be open on Easter Sunday but expect limited hours that vary by location. Many locations will be closed, however, and that includes Starbucks cafes located inside Target stores (which will be closed). In addition, some locations may only be open for drive-through orders.
Save A Lot
Save A Lot locations will be open on Easter Sunday. However, hours will vary by store, so shoppers should check ahead at their preferred location.

Walmart
Unless it announces otherwise, Walmart will remain open on Easter. This is nothing new, Walmart is generally always open on Easter. (Walmart Easter hours: Walmart is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. at most locations. It might reduce hours for Easter Sunday. Note that, while the main store may be open, other operations (such as the auto care center and pharmacy) will close earlier than the store does. Walmart curbside pickup also closes earlier than the store – at 8 p.m.).
Walgreens
Expect 24-hour Walgreens locations to remain open on Easter, as they do on all major holidays. If you’re picking up a prescription, be sure to check the pharmacy hours, as these will vary from regular store hours.
