Fireworks Safety Tips Ahead of July 4th

If you’re planning on setting off fireworks this 4th of July make sure you are taking all the necessary precautions. Fireworks while gorgeous can be extremely dangerous and you want to enjoy the holiday not spend it in the emergency room. Make sure to read up on these fireworks safety tips before you decide to set any off this weekend.

• Never Allow Young Children To Handle Fireworks

  Older children should only use any type of fireworks including sparklers, under constant adult supervision.

• Avoid Using Fireworks When Under the Influence Of Drugs Or Alcohol

  I know you want to drink on July 4th, but if you do don't also set off fireworks. You're asking for trouble.

• Keep A Bucket Of Water Close By Just In Case

  If for some reason so fireworks don't go off or would happen to catch fire make sure you have a bucket of water close by. You want to be able to quickly extinguish any flames. Better safe than sorry!
• If Fireworks Malfunction Don’t Relight Them

  If your fireworks don't go off for any reason do not try to relight them. Make sure to extinguish any flame and discard of them safely.

• Never Hold A Lit Firework In Your Hands

  Only light them on the ground and immediately back away to a safe distance.

• Wear Protective Eyewear

  Anyone who is handling fireworks or close by should wear protective eyewear to avoid serious injury.
• Discard Of Them Safely

  Soak any used fireworks, whether they fully ignited or not, in water for at least a couple hours before discarding them.

• One At A Time

  Only light one firework at a time so you can have eyes on it at all time.

  In North Carolina it is only legal to use fireworks that do not spin or explode. This includes sparklers, snakes, glowworms, and others. Roman candles, aerial fireworks, bottle rockets, etc are illegal. In South Carolina it's legal to purchase most fireworks above the age of 16. Fireworks "containing pyrotechnic composition in excess of two grains, designed to produce a loud and piercing effect" are illegal per SC law.
• Never Point Fireworks At A Person

  Keep all fireworks pointed away from people as well as animals or buildings.

• When In Doubt Leave It To The Professionals!
