South Carolina’s Oldest Hardware Shop Featured in Upcoming Documentary

Ever been to Chester, South Carolina? If you have then you have probably heard of Ezell’s Hardware Store. It is South Carolina’s oldest hardware store and it’s still open!

Fox 46 reports that the Chester hardware store is located in the same building, same location since its original opening, and has never closed. Ezell’s has been open since 1886 serving people from both North Carolina and South Carolina. This year, the store will be featured in a PBS documentary. The documentary will discuss the store’s age and originality. The store’s owner, John Barry Wilson, explains to Fox 46 that the fact that the store is still open and running is amazing. Wilson bought the business in 1975. Ezell’s has gone through multiple owners and name changes but still remains open to serving the community.

Wilson tells Fox 46, “I treat everybody the same, everybody gets good treatment, everybody gets good service.” Wilson’s son is next in line to take over the business to continue the tradition. The PBS documentary is set to air on August 12. A special preview will be available on July 28th.

South Carolina One of the Cheapest States to Live in for 2022

Broke as a joke? If you’re moving to South Carolina soon, your pockets just might thank you! South Carolina has been named in the top 10 cheapest states to live in for 2022. States throughout the country have various costs of living, but some are just outright ridiculous. With thousands in rent, million-dollar homes, and high gas it can get crazy. Maybe the best option would be to move to a much better state where it’s more affordable to live.

Home Snacks conducted a study to determine the cheapest state to live in America for 2022. MIT’s Living Wage data helps determine which states are the most affordable for Americans right now. They took into consideration things such as housing, milk, utilities, and gas in each state to determine the cheapest. Cheapest does not mean you don’t need any money, just a lot less money than in places like New York City or Los Angeles. South Carolina made the top 10 and being born and raised there I can understand why. Shout out to the Carolinas!
