Being not only an only child but the only grandchild on one side of my family let's just say I can relate to this. A study by CoventryDirect surveyed over 2,000 grandchildren and asked them to rate how spoiled they were by their grandparents on a scale of 1-5. First place was a tie between Florida and Kansas. But the Carolinas weren't far behind. In fact, South Carolina ranked number 3 with an average score of 3.25 while North Carolina was just behind them with a 3.24. That's a decent amount of grandparents spoiling their grandkids in the Carolinas.

The article published leading up to Grandparents Day this  Sunday also included some other interesting facts. For instance, did you know that 58% of people say their grandparents gave them food their parents wouldn't let them have? While maybe not foods I wasn't allowed to have, both sets of my grandparents would always make sure to have my favorite foods around. And going out to eat meant you could order anything and everything you wanted.

While grandparents tend to spoil their grandchildren 26% said it's with things they don't actually want. But what would that be? Some of the worst gifts reportedly received include:

  • A concrete goose
  • Lace Doilies
  • Olives
  • A plunger filled with cereal
  • A  peacock necklace

If you're lucky enough to still have your grandparents treasure them. I lost my last one in June of 2020 and I miss her dearly. Let them spoil you, call, and spend time with them. It means a lot to them but will also mean a lot to you as well. Happy Grandparents Day!
