Cornbread Festival Coming To South Carolina Soon
Y’all, I love cornbread. No matter how you slice it, that delectable bread is a staple of the south. And, the Cornbread Festival comes to South Carolina next month. ABC25 Columbia reports the annual event is scheduled for Sunday, April 30. Visitors look forward to a cornbread cook-off as well as food trucks, music and more. Plan to attend between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. at 2847 N. Main St. And, a couple of my favorite activities mentioned in association with the event are the cornbread eating competition and the “corn muffin play land.” Sign me up! Plus, there’ll even be a “Little Miss Muffin Pageant.” Also, if you wish to sample different varieties of cornbreads it’s available for $5. Advance tickets to the event are $10. Day of passes will be $15. And, kids 12 and under get in free. This year’s event marks the return after a 3 year hiatus due to COVID. According to NOMA (North Main District, Columbia) the festival attracts around 8000 folks to celebrate each year.
Cornbread is one of the oldest foods known to man. Chances are your mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and so forth had a family recipe for it. And, controversy swirls around whether to add sugar or not. I find most cornbread purists agree that adding sugar is a no-no. However, if I am being honest I do enjoy a touch of sweetness. But, depending on the circumstances savory applications make more sense. And, I never turn down a chance to amp up the flavor with some spicy jalapenos. I suppose that’s my Texan coming out. Regardless, the Cornbread Festival in South Carolina will no doubt give you a chance to try lots of different varieties. Don’t miss it!
