Charlotte Douglas Airport Ranks In The Top Ten, For Cheapest Airport Parking Costs
Airport parking. Perhaps it’s because I’ve never done it. As a kid when we would fly for family vacations my grandparents would drop us off and pick us up at the airport. As an adult, my parents or a co-worker do the honors. And when I flew with both my parents this spring, we scheduled a 5 am Uber pickup. I don’t know if it’s the cost, the fact that we’ve mostly always had someone to do drop off or the uncertainty of leaving my car somewhere for that long. But tons and tons of people do. Charlotte Douglas International Airport offers numerous parking options. And, believe it or not, they are pretty affordable compared to other major cities.
A recent study by Simple Flying ranked the top 10 airports in the world with the cheapest weekly parking. And Charlotte Douglas International Airport and its parking situation made the list. They came in 10th overall, with Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport taking the top spot. The highest-ranking US airport? LAX. This accolade would be impressive nationwide, but worldwide it is definitely something to brag about. And rightfully so they did. I was actually sent this news in an email from the Charlotte airport. The email read as follows:
At CLT Airport, we take pride in providing the best value for airport parking. In fact, we’ve just been ranked among the top 10 cheapest airports for parking in the world.

And of course, had a link to pre-book parking for your trip. You can do that here! According to the Simple Flying study, “the cheapest option in long-term and daily lots is $69.99, just $10 a day.” at CLT. That is cheaper than an Uber. I’ll probably still elect to get dropped off and picked up as long as that option is available to me. But it’s nice to know there is another affordable option when traveling.
Charlotte Douglas International Airport Is The 7th Busiest In The World New Data Shows
Yes, you read that correctly. New data shows that Charlotte Douglas International Airport is the 7th busiest airport, not in the US but worldwide. This data comes from Airports Council International who recently released their yearly rankings. This is based on data from 2022. They actually rank the busiest airports based on a few different metrics this includes lists calculated by the following:
- Passengers (total passengers enplaned and deplaned counting passengers in transit one time)
- International Passengers (total international passengers enplaned and deplaned)
- Cargo (loaded and unloaded freight and mail including transit freight)
- International Freight (international freight loaded and unloaded including transit freight)
- Aircraft Movements (landings and takeoffs)
So which one of these did Charlotte Douglas International Airport rank 7th in? The last one – aircraft movements. This is actually down two spots from 2021 when CLT ranked 5th. In 2022 505,589 flights took off or landed in Charlotte. That’s a lot of planes. I was on a few of them but nowhere near that amount! One thing I found interesting about this data is that for both total passengers as well as aircraft movements these lists are very top-heavy with US cities. Atlanta took both of those titles. This confirms that while that drive to Atlanta from Charlotte is terrible, it’s probably better than flying! Does it surprise you that Charlotte Douglas International Airport is the 7th busiest in the world?
