I’ve lived in North Carolina my whole life and only really remember two moments of feeling an earthquake. Once was when I lived in Raleigh attending college at NC State. I was in a computer lab in the basement of one of the buildings on campus when an earthquake shook the area. It was certainly startling. The other was also several years ago when I was staying at my parents’ home here in Charlotte and an earthquake woke us up around 7 AM. I’m certainly glad these events aren’t more common in this area of the country. They are so unpredictable and can cause catastrophic damage with little to no warning. While we don’t get earthquakes often, we are at higher risk for other natural disasters. Keep reading to learn about the 5 most common here in NC.
