It's no secret that North Carolina is a hub for technology. Especially in the Triangle area of the state. Research Triangle Park is home to established tech giants as well as thriving start-up companies. So when I was sent this study of the best states for jobs in the technology field, I knew we'd find NC on the list. And it turns out North Carolina ranked as the 6th best state for tech careers. The research was conducted by business consulting firm Venture Smarter. To create these rankings the business consulting firm "analyzed metrics relevant to careers in tech such as the median hourly wage in tech roles, the number of people employed in tech roles per 1,000 jobs in each state, and the percentage of remote workers". From there they scored them out of 100 to create an index revealing the best states to work in tech in America.

Venture Smarter reports that the median hourly wage in tech in NC is $49.22. I 100% went into the wrong career field. That is more than double for all jobs across the state. Is anyone willing to pay for me to go back to school? It's wonderful to know that you can have a profitable are rewarding career in a growing industry close to home. The best part? The cost of living in North Carolina is substantially lower than these other states known for tech careers. So while you may be making more in Washington or California, that money goes a lot farther on the east coast!
