As the data points to, in March of 2024, the median list price for homes in the Sunset Beach area was $340,000. However, some homes can break $1 million, depending on where they sit.
But, if you are willing to open up your choices and move inland a bit, as with many beach towns, you can find properties in an affordable range.
Historically, the spot was known as ‘Bald Beach.’ The moniker ‘Sunset Beach’ reportedly came along in the ’50s at the hands of a developer who loved the sunset views.

So, how did realtor.com arrive at their list of the most affordable places to buy a beach house? The study began with a federal database of beaches and their locations to come up with the initial mass list.
Then, they examined median list prices of property in March for single family homes, including condos. And, finally, those picked for the final list had to have sandy, public beach ocean access. And, only one town per state was mentioned in the top 10.

Of course, coming in at number 5 on the list was another popular destination for us folks in the Carolinas. Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with a median list price of just under $300,000 attracts plenty of folks looking for a vacation home.
