I live in South Carolina, so, I see the growth exploding over the last few years. Census numbers indicate more and more people are moving to South Carolina. But, which states show the most migration to the Palmetto State?
Moving To South Carolina And Where Folks Are Coming From
According to The Sun News, census data points to 10 states in particular with the most people moving to South Carolina. Just last year, the numbers show more than 200,000 people came to South Carolina from other states. And, leading the pack was North Carolina. That's understandable since North Carolina borders the Palmetto State. In fact, I am one of those who jumped across the state line a couple of years ago.
My son is a student at Coastal Carolina in Conway, South Carolina. And, it made financial sense to hop on over to benefit from in state tuition rates. I still, however, work in North Carolina. So, perhaps there are others like me who straddle the fence between the Carolinas. Whatever the case, more than 28,000 people moving to South Carolina did so from North Carolina last year.
Falling in line right behind North Carolina with the most people moving to South Carolina was Georgia at just over 17,000.
So, why are people moving to South Carolina in droves? A study cited in the article found a large number are retirees. Some move for jobs, others for lifestyle change or to be near family. And, why not? It's a very lovely place to live.
Many years ago we lived in Greenville, South Carolina. It's one of our favorite places we've ever lived. And now, in the Indian Land/Fort Mill area, we enjoy living in the state again! Historic South Carolina Cities Recognized Nationally For Their Slower Pace Of Life
I just returned to the frigid tundra that is the Carolinas after spending 5 days in the Caribbean sun. And it's a harsh reality! I'm thankful for the time spent but struggling to get back into the swing of things. And I'm really disliking the 6o degree temperature swing. I'm still craving that island lifestyle. And let's face it, who among us doesn't dream of being financially stable enough we can leave the daily grind behind? I always say I wish I could work because I wanted to not because I had to. But I'll have to win the lottery for that to ever be the case. However, if you're lucky enough to be able to slow down and enjoy life you'll be glad to know that not one, not two, not three but FOUR South Carolina towns were named the best to "escape the rat race".
The Study
This is according to a study by Joy Organics which named the 150 best US Cities at Towns to "Escape The Rat Race". The towns are in different areas of the Palmetto State, but one thing is for sure they offer a slower pace of life so many of us desire. In contrast, North Carolina only had two places included on the list. We will take the win in this friendly state rivalry this time! JoyOrganics says that the cities and towns on this list are the "most sought-after towns and cities" for "those waiting to distance themselves from the relentless pace of the rat race".
