Sometimes, sitting at a restaurant with family can be so comforting, especially if it’s a restaurant you’ve been going to for years.

My father loved to take us out to eat, and while there were four of us and we couldn’t do it as much as he’d like, he reveled in taking his kids out and trying new food. So every time I go to a restaurant where my daddy took us to eat, it’s just wonderful and gives me such warm memories of my father.

The Oldest Restaurant In The U.S. Still Open

Union Oyster House is a restaurant at 41–43 Union Street in Downtown Boston, Massachusetts. Open to diners since 1826, it is among the oldest operating restaurants in the United States and the oldest known to have been continuously operating. The building was listed as a National Historic Landmark on May 27, 2003.

The menu is traditional New England fare, including seafood such as oysters, clams, and lobsters, as well as poultry, baked beans, steak, and chops.

The Oldest Restaurant In North Carolina

The most historic restaurant in all of North Carolina is the Carolina Coffee Shop in Chapel Hill, which has been around for more than a century. It opened in 1922.

Carolina Coffee Shop is located at 138 East Franklin Street. Franklin Street is a prominent thoroughfare in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Carolina Coffee Shop is locally owned and operated. It features "an inviting environment that proudly shows its history while also embracing modern drinks and food."

It is just over a two-hour drive from Charlotte.

Kopper Kettle

Kopper Kettle is a comfort food restaurant that's been serving Charlotte for over 50 years. They are located at 11000 Nations Ford Road in Pineville.

Kopper Kettle is famous for their cheeseburgers, K's Double Cheeseburger, and the Ruthless Burger. They also serve pitas, gyros, chicken, and various sandwiches, including a patty melt.

Chicken N Ribs

Chicken N Ribs is located at 100 Beatties Ford Road in Charlotte; this restaurant serves chicken and ribs that are similar to what the owner's grandfather served in the 1950s.

Original Chicken and Ribs is a family-owned and operated restaurant in the historical Washington Heights neighborhood of Charlotte, North Carolina. Original Chicken and Ribs sells a vast array of sandwiches and platters with an "urban flare" featuring items from fried chicken, ribs, and fish, to their famous, "Fat Boy," burger.

Brooks Sandwich House

Brooks Sandwich House restaurant opened in 1973. They are described by many as a "Tiny roadside stop with a walk-up window serving burgers, chili & simple sandwiches for 40+ years."

Good To Know: This restaurant takes cash-only, has outdoor seating, and doesn't accept reservations.
