North Carolina Ranks 10th In Nation For Food Insecurity
According to the North Carolina Justice Center, North Carolina ranks 10th in the country in food insecurity. What does that mean? When a family is “food insecure,” it means that not every family member has access to healthy and nutritious food choices to support an active and healthy lifestyle.
Are we really one of the richest nations and many people in our country don’t get or have basic nutrition to live?
Clearly, that’s a problem. And that’s why the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) has established a vision for children and families in North Carolina. It’s the State Action Plan For Nutrition Security. And that is having consistent and equitable access to healthy, safe, affordable foods essential to optimal health and well-being.
