I can’t believe it’s already March! My brain feels like it’s in hyperdrive because the year really is flying by. And speaking of buying, there are always certain months that you want to purchase specific items in 2022.

The month of March coincides with spring break, summer travel planning, and Easter preparations. So, to help you take full advantage of the best spring savings, RetailMeNot used their internal discount data to calculate average discounts in March. From the research, these are the top five categories you should consider buying in North Carolina.

  • 1. Tax Software

Luckily, my taxes are already done. But if you are running behind, the average discount is 35% off in March. February is traditionally the busiest month for filing taxes, but plenty still has to do it – especially those who need extra time because they have complex returns. The top tax software companies will continue to compete for business. Check for other valuable discounts such as free tax advice from tax pros in addition to promo codes for straight-up discounts. Here are the blatestH&R Block and TurboTax discounts for 2022 (the tax year 2021).

  • 2. Sunglasses

Block out the haters and the sun! The average discount on sunglasses is 27% off. I’m always in the mood for a new pair of sunglasses. Shopping during cold weather might mean bigger discounts, but shopping during warmer seasons means a wider selection and newer styles. March is a good time to shop. While demand isn’t as high as it will be in July, when everyone will be thinking about shades, retailers are stocking this year’s styles and hoping to entice shoppers to buy. You can find deep discounts on last year’s styles since designers and retailers will be launching and releasing new inventory in the next few months. The Sunglass Hut website offers discounts like $60 off a second pair, plus 5% cashback. Target is also famous (infamous?) for putting things on sale you didn’t quite know you needed yet — so check out its coupons and category discounts for sunglasses savings (and other early discounts on summer fashions).

  • 3. Travel: Hotels, Resorts, etc.

The average discount, if you are looking to travel, is 18% off. Travelers are once again turning to the skies, roads, and water as another COVID wave winds down. Just months ago, spring break travel may not have been a possibility for many. Summer vacation is also just around the corner. International travel is still fraught with restrictions and testing requirements, so focus your bargain-hunting efforts on domestic destinations. Booking early with Expedia will save you 20%, booking with Hertz by March 31 will save you 4% cashback, booking with IHG will save you 15%, and booking on Hotels.com will save you 30%.

  • 4. Kids Clothing

I use to love wearing my little Easter dress! While adults might be able to wear last year’s clothing another year (or more), kids grow! So a new season means the need to go shopping if you don’t have a hand-me-down connection. Retailers compete by cutting parents a break, offering deals on clothing for toddlers and children. Plus, Easter is just around the corner, so you’ll likely see some enticing offers on little Easter dresses, Easter suits, and Easter outfits. Check out Target, Carter’s, Macy’s, and Kohls for deals on clothes that your kid will likely get grass stains on.

  • 5. Outdoor Sports & Fitness Products

The average discount for this in March is 26% off. As winter wanes, the outdoors start to seem more appealing to those in cold climates. Those who flocked to gyms in the new year might be finding the indoors a little stuffy. And retailers are ready to welcome them into the outdoors with everything from running shoes, to kayaks, to sporting equipment, to transitional athletic clothing. Check out Dick’s Sporting Goods, Academy Sports + Outdoors and Cabela’s the moment you flip the calendar to March.
