The most important thing to you is keeping your family safe. Criminals are everywhere, unfortunately. The existence of public state sex offender registries may be well known, but this information is rarely reported on a national level through official channels. In North Carolina, as in many states, sex offenders are registered.
SafeHome.org compiles sex offender data from all 50 states every year to determine which regions have the largest registries. In addition, the change in offenses across the nation is also being examined. Over the past year, they found that the number of registered offenders has declined slightly. Approximately 767,000 people are left today, down from about 780,000 in 2021.
Our research found that there are more than 760,000 people listed on state sex offender registries (as of April 2022). Based on our analysis, the number of registered sexual offenders in the U.S. has fallen by just under two percent since 2021. The following table shows the number of sex offenders registered in North Carolina in 2022. We also included some additional state results below as well.
