College is a wild time for a lot of reasons. Sometimes that meal plan just doesn’t cut it and you find yourself eating in the dorm. But cooking in one? Even if you’re lucky enough to have a kitchen, can be dicey. This leads to having to come up with some interesting dorm room meal hacks and students eating ‘interesting’ combinations of food.
Website Student Beans conducted a study on the eating habits of college students. They asked current students about their experiences with food in college. That study showed that students are getting more ‘creative’ with their food combinations than ever before. With often just a microwave to cook out of a little inventiveness goes a long way. This includes things like using coffee pots to cook pasta, pairing things like popcorn and ketchup?!, and more. Another weird combination that made the list? Kylie Jenner’s favorite avocado and honey.
Additional popular pairings include:
- Cheese pizza with pineapple, onions, and mushrooms with ranch to dip it in
- Pickles and fruit roll-ups
- Peanut butter and lemon
- Scrambled eggs and syrup
- Ice cream and french fries
French fries and ice cream I can get behind. If you say you’ve never tried your fries dipped in a Wendy’s Frosty I refuse to believe you. While doing the study Student Beans discovered that the #dormfood on TikTok has over 93 million views and counting. Some of these videos reminded me of my time cooking in a dorm. The best idea we had? S’mores. It snowed and we wanted to roast marshmallows. Obviously, that’s not possible in a dorm. But that didn’t stop us. After a few tries in the microwave (melts them but not toasted) we went outside. While not the most time-efficient we were able to roast marshmallows with a lighter and create the perfect dorm room s’more Here are 5 of the best viral TikTok dorm food hacks:
