At 4-3, The Hornets Are Buzzing Ahead Of Meeting With Boston
The Charlotte Hornets continue to roll as they make it three straight after an overtime win against the Indiana Pacers.
We’re only seven games in but this Hornets team is already exceeding expectations. These are the kinds of games that create momentum and help build confidence for young teams. Devonte’ Graham, Terry Rozier, and Bizmack Biyombo were the stars in this one. Those three accounted for 44 of the Hornets’ last 46 points in the game. The Pacers were without Myles Turner and Demontis Sabonis in this one and while the Pacers still won the battle on the boards, there’s no doubt the absence of their two big men made a large impact on the game.
Devonte’ Stays Hot, Rozier Finding His Rhythm
Devonte’ finished with 35 points on 10 of 21 shooting but he made clutch free throws down the stretch and helped put this game away. We heard from coach Borrego coming into the season that Graham and Rozier would be on the court together and it’s worked out well so far. Graham has been incredible to start the season and he’s been doing it all while coming off of the bench. What used to be a weakness for the Hornets is now a strength as Borrego has two capable point guards that he can lean on at any point in the game.

Rozier finished with 22 points on 7 of 19 shooting but is really starting to blend well with this team. The young guys are coming through in a big way. PJ Washington has played extremely well to start the season. Dwayne Bacon set his career-high with 25 points in the Hornets previous win against Golden State. Miles Bridges finished with 18 points tonight while shooting 80% from the field. Even Bismack Biyombo chipped in with 15 points in 17 minutes off of the bench. There’s a lot for fans to be excited about with this team.
Unsung Hero On Defense
Cody Martin has been a nice surprise, being a pest on defense and it has paid off in late-game situations in both the Golden State game and here tonight against the Pacers. Martin leaves much to be desired on the offensive end but makes up for it with rebounding, defensive ability, and a high motor. He may be a player to watch if he starts to develop offensively.
T.J. Warren And Malcolm Brogdon Impress
It’s never been a doubt that Warren could score, as an N.C. State fan I remember him pouring it on frequently, he finished with 33 points on 15 -18 shooting. Brogdon, though, is turning heads with his scoring output this season. He is leading the team in points per game and assists averaging 22.5 and 9.7 respectively, coming into tonight’s contest. He finished with 31 shooting 12-19 from the field. Brogdon has always been known for his defensive ability but he’s proving to be one of the best free-agent additions of the summer with his surprising output on the offensive end.
What’s Next?
The Hornets have a tough task ahead on Thursday as Kemba Walker will play his first game in Charlotte as Boston Celtic. The Celtics come in at 5-1 and have won five straight after starting 0-1.
