Small Hands: Does Size Matter??
I’ve been saying it for a while, guys with small hands can’t play QB. It’s the only reason I’m not a starting QB in the NFL right now, so I feel your pain person who is reading this with potentially small hands. Let’s dive into a few of the reasons I believe small hands can make or break your QB.
Everyday Life With Small Hands
Life is difficult when you have small hands. Handshakes are awkward, it’s hard to find the right size gloves and good luck being taken seriously at the NFL combine. A few QB’s have been successful despite their tiny hands. Michael Vick is probably the most notable but most recently we’ve seen Jared Goff and Carson Wentz have success as well, not this past season but it’s worth noting.
Big hands don’t mean success. Average sized hands actually yield more success. Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers? Average hands. Hard to argue against that logic, they have seven Super Bowls. How many rings do I have? None, that’s right, it’s my small hands.
Ball Security: The Biggest Issue
Being a Panthers fan, this past year (most years, actually) was rough. So many fumbles by Kyle Allen made me look further into this. Well, what I found shouldn’t surprise you. His hands are not big, in fact, they are small. Kyle Allen argues that QBs with big hands fumble just as much as QBs with small hands. He’s not wrong, but it’s hard to trust a person with small hands.
Should Joe Burrow Retire?
Considering retirement after I was informed the football will be slipping out of my tiny hands. Please keep me in your thoughts.
— Joey Burrow (@JoeyB) February 24, 2020
The recent news of Joe Burrow’s tiny hands has sparked the conversation of hand size like it does every year at the combine. Burrow made a joke about retiring due to his small hands. So should Joe save himself the embarrassment and just retire? The short answer is yes. Burrow is doomed for a carer of mediocrity and it’s not just because the Bengals will probably draft him. IT’S THE HANDS. I’m sure Joe is a fine young man but he doesn’t have the hands to lead a team. Would anyone in the NFL take him seriously in the huddle?? These are grown men with grown men hands, how can they feel secure in your tiny hands? They can’t.
