Casino Lined-Up for Kings Mountain Only 35 Miles From Charlotte
Get ready for the chance to see blinking slot machines and green-carpeted tables…North Carolina is about to get another casino.
According to a press release, the U.S. Department of the Interior has taken the land in question into trust, and, as a result, the Catawba Indian Nation can now move forward with the proposed project. The complex would be built on 16.57 acres in Kings Mountain located off I-85 at Dixon School Road.
The Catawba Indian Nation statement said that the tribe plans to “begin working closely with Gov. Cooper’s office so that the state of North Carolina can also benefit from the project in Kings Mountain.” Currently, the Cherokees operate two casinos west of King’s Mountain: Harrah’s Cherokee Casino Resort, which is 130 miles away; and Harrah’s Cherokee Valley River Casino and Hotel, around 190 miles away.
In the proposal, the casino is set to have around 1,796 slots, 54 table games, restaurants, bars, and a player’s club. The casino would be open 24 hours a day/seven days a week. This entertainment facility will cost $273 million but hey, 35 miles away from a CASINO! I don’t know about you guys, but I am very excited about this. I grew up only thirty minutes away from Atlantic City, so casinos have a special place in my heart.
I am curious how long this will take to build and come alive. With everything going on in our world, I wouldn’t be shocked if we don’t see this new casino open until 2022 or later. But boy, once this bad boy is open…that parking will be PACKED.
