People are Hoarding Heartburn Drug Suspected of Treating COVID-19
This does not seem right to me.
Following reports that an active ingredient in heartburn medicine might help treat COVID-19, hoarders have wasted no time in clearing store shelves of the products. Retailers like Walgreen’s, CVS and Amazon say their stock of Pepsid AC and other brands have been snatched up in the last two days after it was reported that famotidine, an antacid found in Pepsid AC and generic brands, was being used in a trial by Northwell Health researchers in New York.
Researcher Kevin Tracey, who notes the drug has not yet been proven to be effective, says Northwell officials initially attempted to keep the trials quiet to avoid a hoarding situation. “If we talked about this to the wrong people or too soon, the drug supply would be gone,” Tracey said.
