7 North Carolina Laws That Activate Before And On July 1st

Urgh, laws…am I right? Even though laws can sometimes be annoying, they keep us safe. Sure, there might be some you find ridiculous too, but the start of a new month means the start of some new North Carolina laws.

It’s important to stay informed and many North Carolina state laws are in effect as of July 1st, 2021. In my opinion, seven of them are most deserving of attention. The following list shows the seven laws that are effective today in North Carolina.

• Sporting Events

  Legislation has been passed allowing incentives to be offered to North Carolina to attract championship sporting events.

• Mental Health in Schools

  Share

  Mental health is very important. A mental health training program and a protocol for risk referrals for suicide must be adopted in North Carolina's K-12 schools. The plan must follow guidelines outlined by the State Board of Education. By the 2021-2022 school year, all school personnel should have completed mental health training.

• Robots Must Adhere Like Humans!

  Drone drop-off? North Carolina passed an act defining and regulating robots conducting deliveries without the remote control or direct supervision of a human. Bye-Bye! Traffic laws and speed limits must be followed by delivery vehicles, as well as pedestrians must yield.
• New DMV Fees

  Share

  New DMV fees will take effect in North Carolina. Registration costs have increased for registering a vehicle and getting a driver's license. As of July 1, 2020, a five-year license will increase by $2.50. The annual registration fee will go from $36 to $38.75.

• Delaying Municipal Elections

  Under the new legislation, Session Law 2021-56, more than 30 municipalities across North Carolina. This will delay elections which were originally scheduled for later in 2021.

• Land-Use Regulatory Changes

  An act to clarify, consolidate, and reorganize the land-use regulatory laws of the state.
• Medicaid Managed Care

  Share

  Medicaid beneficiaries in North Carolina will begin receiving the same Medicaid services in a new way. It will now be through NC Medicaid Managed Care health plans. Most beneficiaries will continue to get care from the same doctors they currently see, but will now be a member of a health plan.
