Charlotte Yard Waste Must Now Be Placed In Paper Bags
Beginning today, Monday, July 5, residents in Charlotte must place yard waste in paper yard waste bags or reusable containers, per the City of Charlotte. The containers must weigh 75 pounds or under. The city hopes this change will reduce the use of single-use plastics and speed up collection times.

The disposal facility used by the city does not accept plastics therefore workers are having to un-bag yard waste left on the curb in plastic trash bags. This process can very time-consuming and even dangerous. In contrast, the paper bags are compostable and can be thrown directly into the trucks. If you forget to place your yard waste in paper bags it’s ok, the City of Charlotte Solid Waste Services will allow one “courtesy collection” of plastic bags just in case they are unaware. If so a note detailing the new requirements will be left at the residence. Paper bags are available for free at recycling centers and the Solid Waste Service office.
