Metal Detectors Could Be at CMS After Recent Uptick In Guns
Could metal detectors become normal protocol at CMS? If you haven’t heard the district is having a substantial issue with guns on campus this school year. According to the Patch, there have been fifteen instances thus far in the 2021-2022 school year where a student has brought a gun to school. In one situation that occurred at Hopewell High School, a gun fell on the floor during a fight. And one Charlotte Mecklenburg School District board member wants to see action. The board is scheduled to meet tonight, Tuesday, and Rhonda Cheek plans to bring up the issue of school safety.
Some of the options she wants to discuss include clear backpacks and metal detectors. While these are not the most ideal solutions for most students something obviously needs to be done. The meeting will take place at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center tonight at 6 pm. The meeting is open to the public and will be broadcast on CMS-TV and live-streamed online.
