Event This Weekend In Concord Raising Funds To Support Mental Health Organization
If you’re athletic or you’d just like to get out and do some exercising, there’s an event in Concord, North Carolina this weekend you should check out! And proceeds from the event will benefit a great cause.
This Saturday, January 14, the 3rd Annual Mount Afton Challenge is happening. The event is from 8 am-10 am. F3 Afton is hosting the event. The event is a fundraiser for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention services. Unfortunately, mental illness affects many people. I’ve personally dealt with depression and anxiety since I was a teenager. Funds raised for this event will be given to the Cabarrus County Chapter of NAMI, the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
The Mount Afton Challenge will see who can complete the most 1-mile laps in the Runner and Rucker divisions. I had to Google the term ‘rucking’. It’s running with weight. Registration will not commit you to continuous running/rucking for the entire 2 hours. The challenge is simply you vs. you… what you can do! There will be prizes for the runners and ruckers with the most distance covered. Walking is allowed for those of you like me that don’t run. LOL!
Following the event, The Wine Room in Afton Village will be open early to serve food and drinks for our participants, volunteers, and supporters. If you’d like to participate in the event, you can register here. And if you can’t make the event, you can still donate to support the cause.
If you can support the event in any way, it would be awesome! Mental health issues and mental illness affects all of us. Thank you for any help!
