North Carolina Has The Noisiest Neighbors Of Any State
There is nothing worse than noisy neighbors. Whether it’s that dog that won’t be quiet, the loud stomping of an upstairs apartment neighbor, loud music and parties, or hearing EVERYTHING. I’m all for having fun and know that living in close quarters to other families or individuals can mean a little more noise. It’s often a trade-off with location. But I think we can all agree that the impact that good or bad neighbors can have on how much you love living somewhere. I’ve been lucky and for the most part, had good neighbors. Well aside from the woman who shamed me for not saying hello at 10 pm one night who I don’t think I had ever met. But I may be lucky because North Carolina actually ranks the highest when it comes to the noisiest neighbors.
This data was shared with us from a new survey by Compare the Market AU. They ranked each US State and also determined the most common noisy grievances. And right there at the top with the noisiest neighbors is North Carolina. Almost 1/3 of the survey respondents from NC reported experiencing daily noise due to their neighbors.
These were the most common noise complaints reported by US residents:
- Children running, jumping, and screaming like crazy 56%
- Loud music or parties 44%
- Barking dogs 36%
- Yard work 24%
- Yelling (not in an argument) 24%
- Arguing 24%
- Construction or home improvement noise 16%
- TV noise 16%
- Slamming drawers and doors 12%
- Crying baby/child 8%
- Talking on the phone loudly and continuously 8%
- Intimacy 8%
- Pet toy squeaking 4%
- Other 4%
The other states rounding out the top five were Pennsylvania which tied with Illionis at 2, New Jersey (3), Indiana (4), and Ohio (5). My personal biggest noise complaint is less with my neighbors and more with yard maintenance workers. No one needs to be blowing leaves or trimming hedges at 8 a.m. That can wait.
