Royal Caribbean To Set Sail Again
It’s been a long 15 months for anyone who loves to cruise. But good news Royal Caribbean is about to set sail. Royal Caribbean is the first cruise line to be approved by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to do a “test sail” in U.S. waters. The cruise line’s Freedom of the Seas ship will be allowed to sail with volunteer passengers. The voyage will be June 20-22nd and departs out of Miami.
Vaccine requirements are not mandatory for the test sailings, according to the CDC. All crew members however will be vaccinated. The goal once regular sailings resumed is for 95% of guests to be vaccinated. But, passengers will be screened for any Covid-19 symptoms and have to agree to be tested three to five days following the cruise. Cruise ships were halted fifteen months ago when the pandemic hit.
Royal Caribbean is also implementing new cleaning protocols. These include upgraded air conditioning systems, enhanced cleaning, new filtration and hygiene systems, and other precautions. Masks most likely will not be required since most people will be vaccinated but some social distancing likely will be mandated. Waiters will also serve guests from the buffet instead of guests handling the tongs and serving pieces. Ships will also have lower capacity to begin with. The test cruise is only required to be at 10% capacity.
