Every morning I wake up grateful for the day and wonder what strangeness is associated with it. (Yes, I admit I’m a different breed of human) Knowledge of major historic events is critical to understanding our culture and how we live today and I love seeing that happened in years past.

You might think I’m ghastly, but I find history fascinating because of the weird and scary things that happen. In this article, we’ll explore five bizarre occurrences that occurred on July 30th throughout history. So sit back, relax and enjoy the weird and somewhat scary facts in history.

• Britney Spears Gets Divorced

  Free Britney. Am I right? On July 30th, 2007 Britney Spears at only twenty-five years old divorced rapper-dancer, Kevin Federline. They split due to irreconcilable differences and were only married for two years.

• The Last Volkswagen was Produced

  On July 30, 2003, we said bye-bye to the beetle. The last 'old style' Volkswagen Beetle rolls off the assembly line in Mexico. This was the last beetle after 21,529,464 Volkswagen Beetles were produced since World War II.

• National Talk in the Elevator Day

  The last Friday of July is always national talk in an elevator day. Yes, simply a day to have a conversation in an elevator. The day was established to encourage people to strike up a friendly conversation while you're on your elevator ride. Nowadays though, if you choose to observe this holiday stay 6-feet apart.
• Walt Disney’s “Flowers and Trees” Premiered

  On July 30th, 1932 Walt Disney's "Flowers and Trees" premiered. This was very exciting for the time because it was the very first cartoon short to use Technicolor. It also won an Academy Award.

• India Goes Dark

  On July 30th, 2012 a huge Blackout happened in India. This was due to a power grid failure and it left over 400 million+ without power. This was one of the largest power outages in history. Railways, roads, and airports were shut down for hours. Hospitals were having major issues as well. This blackout caused massive amounts of chaos!
