Making sure that everyone enjoys their vacation can be very important. From the younger kids to the grandparents to those with any disability. Being in a wheelchair can already be hard on people, but that does not mean they can’t enjoy a little fun. With the focus on accessibility for all growing in the U.S., it has become important for places to be wheelchair accessible.

Coventry Direct conducted a study to determine the best and worst cities for wheelchair-friendly vacations and the results are in. While ranking more than 100 vacation destinations across the U.S. they were able to determine which were better off for those in a wheelchair. Crazy enough, one North Carolina city not only made the list but took home the #1 spot. That’s right, North Carolina is home to the #1 most wheelchair-friendly vacation destination.   • 5. Orlando, FL

    Coming in at #5 is Orlando, Florida. Out of a total possible score of 100, they received 70.76. There were 51.70 per 100,000 hotels that were wheelchair-accessible in Orlando. There were also 501.86 per 100,000 wheelchair-accessible restaurants.

  • 4. San Juan Islands, WA

    Earning a score of 71.42 out of 100 is the #4 spot, San Juan Islands. There were 3 Airbnb listings that were wheelchair accessible and 61.84 per 100,000 wheelchair accessible hotels. 146.17 per 100,000 wheelchair-accessible restaurants are also in the area.

  • 3. Lake Tahoe, CA

    Coming in at #3 is Lake Tahoe. That’s right, California is home to the #3 wheelchair accessible vacation destination. The city brought home a total score of 72.26 out of a possible 100. Pretty good! There are 2 Airbnb listings that are wheelchair accessible and 79.70 per 100k hotels are wheelchair accessible. Sounds like you won’t have issues finding somewhere to sleep.

  • 2. Miami Beach, FL

    Florida is pretty accessible it seems because another Florida city is at the top of the list. Surprisingly, it’s Miami Beach. One of the most popular vacation destinations overall. Miami Beach gained a score of 72.42 out of a possible 100. There are 3 Airbnb listings deemed wheelchair friendly and 158.05 per 100k wheelchair-accessible hotels.

  • 1. Asheville, NC

    Finally, the North Carolina city that took home the #1 spot was Asheville! That’s right, Asheville is the most wheelchair-friendly vacation destination in the entire U.S. The city gained a score of 72.89 out of 100. There are 4 wheelchair-friendly Airbnb listings and 42.29 per 100k wheelchair-accessible hotels for you to enjoy. The city also was recognized for having plenty of wheelchair-friendly restaurants, bars, and trails!
