The Odds of Securing Your Dream Job In North Carolina
What is your dream job? A lot of kids grow up dreaming of being a doctor, a teacher, a professional athlete, or perhaps an astronaut. For me, as a four-year-old, it was a mailwoman. That grew into a Broadway actor, pop star, and then a professional dancer (RIP to my Rockette dreams thanks to not being 5′ 6″). I was lucky enough to get to fulfill a college dream of working in the music industry aka radio, after entering school as “undecided”. But the odds of securing your true dream job aren’t always high.
One observation I’ve made throughout the years is that the vast majority of dream jobs or “what do you want to be when you grow up?” jobs aren’t the jobs people are going to have. I’d wager the vast majority of people work in jobs that wouldn’t show up on any of those lists. Kids don’t always have a grasp of real-world jobs.
Securing Your Dream Job
That doesn’t mean you can’t or shouldn’t dream, however. Someone has to do those jobs and why shouldn’t it be you. If you’re willing to put in the work for schooling or to develop those skills, you can do almost anything you put your mind to. Unfortunately, I couldn’t grow 4 more inches so I won’t say you can be anything you want to be. Just like not everyone has the build to be an NFL Quarterback no matter how talented they may be.
But for those with dream career aspirations, our friends at Casinos.com analyzed job data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics to determine the odds of securing that dream job. They did this for each individual state and shared it with us. Below you will find the specific odds for North Carolina. Some may come as a surprise, at least they did to me.
