Popular South Carolina Destination Named America’s Favorite City
What’s your favorite city? Even just in the US, it’s almost impossible to pick just one. Personally, it’s a toss-up between Savannah Georgia, Nashville Tennessee, and possibly San Diego California. I’ve also never really been a New York girl but after my last trip there (and spending time in the Upper East Side), it did get raised a little on the list. And actually, all of my top cities did make Travel + Leisure’s list, but it was a South Carolina City that was named America’s Favorite City for 2023.
The popular Travel publication years holds voting for their “ World’s Best Awards”. To create these lists they ask readers about their travel experiences. This includes opinions on the top hotels, resorts, cities, islands, cruise ships, spas, airlines, and more. This year they report that close to 165,000 voted in the survey. Categories include hotels, cities, cruise lines, etc.
When it comes to cities, they were ranked on the following criteria:
- Sights/landmarks
- Culture
- Food
- Friendliness
- Shopping
- Value
And when asked about their favorite US city, the readers chose Charleston, SC. Charleston does get a lot of love. And for great reason. It’s a city full of southern hospitality and charm, a rich history, a stunningly gorgeous downtown, and an incredible culinary scene. Don’t forget the shopping on King Street. Even as someone who grew up in the Carolinas, I do prefer Savannah if given the choice. But that doesn’t mean I don’t love to visit Charleston as well. So what about the other cities on this list? Here’s a quick look at the top 15. Another Carolina city also ranked as one of America’s Favorite Cities. This time to the North and in the mountains.

And a few others I’ve been lucky enough to visit. A couple of others are high on my list as well. It’s great to see Charleston represented as America’s Favorite City. Perhaps it’s time to plan a trip back there soon! You can read the full Travel + Leisure list here.
