Plaza Midwood Neighborhood In Charlotte Is About To Get A Big Makeover
Plaza Midwood is the neighborhood I’ve chosen to live in for the past 4 years since I moved back to Charlotte. I chose the neighborhood because it seemed to perfectly fit my love of art, and culture and the people here just seemed the most like people I would get along with. That’s not to take anything away from the other neighborhoods in Charlotte; in fact, one of the things I love most about Charlotte is how different all the neighborhoods are. With that being said, I want them to stay that way.
That’s why I was a bit sad thrown off this morning when I saw the new renderings of a 12 acre wide renovation that will be happening right in the middle of Plaza Midwood neighborhood. While beautiful, the photos looked like every other new building that has been built in the past two years in Charlotte. There’s just nothing super unique about it.
While the post does says that there were many meetings about preserving Plaza Midwood’s personality and culture while designing these plans, it’s hard not to look at them and be a bit concerned that Plaza Midwood is about to look a LOT different.
It’s hard because of course, I want the city to continue to grow, but when you come to find and love all the little small businesses and local spots that make Charlotte unique, it’s so hard to see them jeopardized.
In the end, we really won’t know until it is built whether or not the project will preserve that wonderful Plaza Midwood personality and culture, we can only hope.
