We’ve made it! College Football is back! Labor Day weekend means the start of football which I’ve been waiting months for. (Yes I realize there were a few games last weekend but that was still considered week 0). All the teams return to action this weekend with games beginning tonight. And there are some big matchups. While historically many major schools play “cupcake” schools in week one, there are two big college football games in the state of North Carolina this weekend.

#13 NC State will take on East Carolina at noon on Saturday while UNC visits Appalachian State which kicks off at the same time. Both should be compelling matchups to match and while the two ACC schools are both favored, they will need to be on top of their game. Emotions are sure to run high in these in-state rivalries. But these aren’t the only Carolina schools excited to play this weekend. Wake Forest will take the field tonight while Duke, Charlotte, and Coastal Carolina play Friday night. Saturday will feature the two previously mentioned games and Spencer Rattler’s South Carolina Gamecock debut. The finale of the weekend will take place Monday night with Clemson in prime time.

Check out the match-ups below and make sure to come back Monday for a recap of the games. It’s going to be a great weekend of college football in both North and South Carolina!

  • #13 NC State at East Carolina

At noon on Saturday in the Greenville sun the #13 NC State Wolfpack will face a test in the ECU Pirates. Emotions will run high in this matchup between an NC State team with high expectations for the season and a ECU team out for revenge coming off a much improved season last year.

  • UNC Chapel Hill at Appalachian State

Both of the biggest games in the Carolina’s will take place at noon Saturday. Boone, NC will be rocking when UNC comes to play. Appalachian pulled out a win in the last meeting between these two teams, can they do it again? While North Carolina did play a game last week, it was against a Florida A&M team missing a significant number of starters. They will face a much greater test this week.

After a disappointing season, at least by Clemson standards, the Tigers are looking to rebound. They enter the season ranked 4th in the country, which some think is too high. The face an ACC foe right off the bat in Georgia Tech which will be a good test for their new offensive and defensive coordinators.
