Where To Find The Best Hot Dog In North Carolina
It’s a simple meal with endless possibilities. The humble hot dog, whether you think it’s a sandwich or not, can be topped with just about anything. And it probably has been! But just as hot dog toppings can vary greatly, so can the quality and taste.
The staff at Mashed have compiled a list of the Best Place to Get a Hot Dog In Every State. In my travels, I sampled my fair share of America’s finest franks, some of which made the list. Pink’s in Los Angeles takes the crown for California. Anyone who’s been to Atlanta knows that The Varsity is the place to go for the best hot dog in Georgia. And the dogs at American Coney Island in Detroit are #1 in Michigan. They’re some of the best I’ve had anywhere.
I also have my favorites in Charlotte. You can never go wrong with the hot dogs at Green’s Lunch, the Queen City’s oldest continuously operating restaurant. Brooks’ Sandwich House and JJ’s Red Hots also rank high on my local list. And I can never resist getting at least two Sahlen’s hot dogs at Truist Field while watching the Charlotte Knights play. But none of those are named as the best in North Carolina.
According to Mashed, the place to find North Carolina’s best hot dog is Pulliam’s in Winston-Salem. They’ve been serving up their bright red beauties since 1910. Of course, Carolina-style with chili and slaw is the way to go. Pulliam’s also has BBQ by the sandwich and the pint on their menu. There’s a road trip in my future.
