This Is South Carolina’s Most Haunted Hotel
Interested in a room with a boo in the Palmetto State? This is South Carolina’s most haunted hotel. It was once owned by one of the founding fathers and signers of the Constitution. It is also one of the state’s oldest hotels.
People seem to have a natural curiosity about the unknown. Personally, I can’t watch a scary movie without putting my hands in front of my face. There is no way I could stay the night in a known “haunted” hotel, but many people can and do. The hotel with the most frequency of reported haunted happenings is the John Rutledge House Inn. It is one of the most historic and oldest inns in South Carolina. The Travel says “powerful metaphysical forces produce prolific paranormal activity” there.
The hotel has a beautiful Victorian design but reportedly has a history of tragedy. Many people claim to have experienced many ghostly hijinks in this hotel. The John Rutledge House Inn is located in Charleston, South Carolina on the north side of Broad Street. The home was built in 1763 for John’s new wife, Elizabeth. The home is beautiful and ornate, first passed down among the family but eventually became an Inn.
The ghost of a 12-year-old girl is told to inhabit the Inn. At one time she lived with her parents in the house until a fire tragically took her life. Sarah’s parents eventually left the house and the house became an Inn in the 1980’s. While Sarah’s parents left, Sarah’s spirit reportedly never did. Hotel guests claim to hear footsteps running up and down the hall and even playfully pulling pillows from underneath the guest’s heads.
