This South Carolina High School Football Team Is Out For The Season
A South Carolina high school football team is out for the season, decimated by injuries and unable to field enough eligible players to face its next opponent.
The cancellations started earlier this week. Officials with the Great Falls High School athletics department announced that the Red Devils would not play against in-county rival Lewisville High School this Friday. Thursday, the school announced its season finale against McBee was canceled.
“After a further review and evaluation of our football program, we have made the decision not to compete against McBee next week due to injuries and the resulting lack of eligible players,” the Great Falls High School athletics department said in a Twitter post. “This was a very difficult decision, however, player safety was and will continue to be our top consideration when evaluating a path forward.”
The decision puts the school’s Senior Night celebration in limbo. It also leaves other South Carolina football teams without an opponent. School officials said information on a Senior Nigh make-up date would be announced in the coming days. Meanwhile, Great Falls will get to work planning for next season. The athletic department’s statement said the football program would be evaluated so the school can “compete at a high level in the coming seasons.”
