North Carolina: State With 8th Most Financial Distress
So it’s not just me. Or you (assuming if you’re reading this you’re struggling as well). On a list of the states with the most financial distress North Carolina just ranked 8th. So everyone around you is most likely feeling the pinch as well.
This is according to our friends at WalletHub who recently shared with us their 2024 rankings for the States with the Most People in Financial Distress. The purpose of the study was to “shed light” on the financial strains being experienced by Americans.
According to WalletHub, at least 7 million Americans have “at least one credit account where they are late on payments”. This also includes accounts where they are permitted to delay payments without penalty.
While we know people across the country are struggling, this gives us some insight as to where those are having the most difficulty. Overall in the study, North Carolina ranked 8th for the most financial distress.
Where is it worse? Here were the 7 states that ranked as having more financial distress than North Carolina:
- Michigan
- Texas
- Nevada
- Tennessee
- Rhode Island
- Georgia
- Mississippi
Our neighbors to the South ranked 11th, so while moving south of the border will help in some ways, it’s not drastically better. If you’re looking for the best places to avoid financial distress try New Hampshire, Iowa, or Connecticut.
