More Than 100 Rescues Conducted in Western North Carolina By Over 500 Troops
Rescues are continuing to be conducted in Western North Carolina as people are looking for help following the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. According to Major General Todd Hunt with the NC National Guard, more than 500 troops have completed over 100 rescue missions in the last two days.
WSPA reports that over 119 citizens and their pets in North Carolina have been rescued after damages caused by Hurricane Helene. Many troops are on the ground going throughout the area to see if there are people in need and there have been tons of air rescues as well.
The search and rescue teams have logged over 250 hours for Friday and Saturday doing air rescues in different parts of Western North Carolina. As of Sunday, officials have been back in the air looking to rescue more across the state.
WSPA reports that troops have conducted 17 rescue operations in the Chimney Rock area. The largest rescue operation of 41 people has been north of Asheville in Buncombe County. There are still hundreds of people missing and officials are working to find as many people as they can that are in need.
Hurricane Helene brought historic rain and flooding in the Carolinas and officials are working to help as many people as possible. NCDOT reports that over 250 roads have been closed due to the effects of Hurricane Helene.
